Privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026.

This page explains, in plain words, what Divya Katha knows about you and why. The official privacy policy is the one linked from the app; where this summary and that policy differ, the official policy is the binding one.

The short version

  • The app knows an anonymous device id (kept hashed), the display name you choose, what you post (comments, likes, ratings), and your watch progress and in-app activity.
  • We never ask for your email address, phone number or real name.
  • We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used, and push notifications for reminders and updates.
  • We do not sell your data.

What the app keeps

To remember you between sessions, the app uses an identifier from your device; the server stores it only in hashed form, so the raw value is not kept. Alongside it, the server holds:

  • the display name you choose (shown next to your comments and wherever the app shows other viewers' activity);
  • your comments, likes and ratings on episodes;
  • your watch progress (which episodes you have watched) and your in-app activity.

We do not ask for your real name, email, phone number, contacts, location or photos.

On your phone

Where you left off in each story is remembered on your device. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes it.

Usage statistics and notifications

The app uses Google's Firebase Analytics (GA4) to count things like which screens are opened and which episodes are watched, so we can see what works and fix what does not. It uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to send push notifications, such as a reminder to continue a story or news about the app. You can turn notifications off in your phone's settings at any time.

What other people see

Your display name and your comments are visible to other people using the app, and your display name may appear wherever the app shows other viewers' activity. Choose a display name you are happy to have seen, and don't post personal details in comments.

This website

This website is static. Its fonts, images and video clips are served from this site, so nothing loads from a third party when you open a page. The site does not run analytics and sets no cookies of its own.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Divya Katha (hosting, database and storage, Firebase for analytics and notifications), under terms that limit their use of it, or when the law requires us to.

Children

Many families watch these stories together. The app asks for no personal details, so a parent can hand the phone to a child to watch a story; we suggest parents keep an eye on comments when children use the app.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and show the date of the last update at the top. Divya Katha is published by Bharat Product House, India.
